On to Quarter, Semi-Finals

First off, thank you to everyone who was there to help out during last night's Metro Regionals. For those of you who couldn't be there, we know you were there in spirit!

Second, and importantly, the band is off to quarterfinal competition, which will take place Friday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas County High School.

Because this competition is during the workweek, we realize it will be challenging for parents to help us out. That said, it's critically important we have enough adults to ride the buses, help get the students ready for competition, and, thirdly, help out with the Pit Crew. This season's performance requires us to move a lot of equipment, and we need all the help we can get. So, parents, if it's at all possible for you take some time off, or, if you are self-employed and can re-arrange your schedule, please consider giving up a morning and lend a hand. Your students, and the entire band, will appreciate it.

Please refer to the itinerary you received via e-mail for more information about the quarterfinals competition/Night Before State.

A few other notes: Because the band will be performing at quarterfinals, we will not be performing at the football game as originally scheduled Oct. 22. Instead, we will have a rehearsal Thursday after school to prepare for Friday's performance.

You'll also notice in the itinerary has a preliminary schedule for the semi-final competition that will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Legacy Stadium in Aurora. The band's performance on Friday will determine when it will perform on Saturday; the tentative schedule attached will give you an idea of what to expect if the band winds up performing in the earliest time slots.

You can see that both Friday and, potentially, Saturday, will be two days of very early mornings, so please keep that in mind.

Finally, we'll be sending more information later in the week about Night Before State and other activities.

This is crunch week. No doubt about it. But the band is working hard, playing well and with your help and support, will finish the 2009 band competition season strong.

Again, thanks for your help. If you have any questions, let us know.

If you can volunteer for bus chaperone/helping get the students ready on Friday, please remember to contact Arlene Bloom at arlene.bloom@comcast.net or bthchandler@comcast.net if you're a Guard parent. For Pit Crew, contact DeWayne Oliver at dewkar@comcast.net.

Big week for band: Upcoming events

The week of Oct. 12 is a big week for the band, with two competitions, including the all-important Metro Regionals, which will help determine if the band moves to quarter-final competition on Friday, Oct. 23. (And of course, they will.)

In addition, the band boosters is sponsoring a parent get-together on the night of Tuesday, Oct. 13, where we will make sack lunches for Metro Regionals and also discuss plans for one of the band's biggest traditions, Night Before State.

First, the parent get-together. On Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. in the band room, we will be making sack lunches for Metro Regionals and talking about Night Before State. It is important that we get as many parents as possible to attend. And we hope to see new faces! Please notify Arlene (arlene.bloom@comcast.net)if you can attend.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Night Before State, it's a time for the band members to get together on the evening of Oct. 23 at the school and prepare for the semi-final competition that will take place the following day. There are always some special activities that make the evening an extraordinary event. Again, the more parents who can help out, the more enjoyable Night Before State will be for our students.

Next, Metro Regionals, which will take place on Thursday, Oct. 15, at Littleton Public School Stadium at 199 East Littleton Blvd. (South Broadway and Littleton Boulevard on the campus of Littleton High School. It's the same location where the Arapahoe Invitational took place.

Again, parking will be at a premium. We haven't heard if the vacant lot that was available to parents during the Arapahoe competition will be available for Metro Regionals. We'll send more information as it becomes available.

Finally, the Friendship Cup, which will take place Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Everly-Montgomery Stadium at Longmont High School. The school is located at 1040 Sunset Street in Longmont.

For these events, as always, we need your help.

Specifically, we are need of bus chaperones, Pit Crew help and Color Guard help for both Metro Regionals and Friendship Cup. If you can help, e-mail or call the following people:

Arlene Bloom at arlene.bloom@comcast.net or call (303) 946- 4425, if interested in helping with students and chaperoning.

Beth Chandler at bthchandler@comcast.net or call (303) 949- 0477, if interested in helping out with Color Guard.

DeWayne Oliver at dewkar@comcast.net, if interested in being part of the Pit Crew.

Please let us know as soon as possible so we are sure that we have enough help for these events!

For those of you who might not be able to help out at events but would like to help out in a way that is more flexible with your time, we really need help with washing uniforms and gauntlets. After the Friendship Cup on Saturday, Oct. 17, and before the following Friday, Oct. 23, we will need to wash all the uniform jackets. They are simple to wash in the machine on delicate, cold water, with use of a non- chlorine stain remover. The more help we have, the easier it will be to do this. Please email or call Arlene Bloom if you are able to help out with this. We want the students to look their best at the Finals Competitions! If you can donate some washing time, please let Arlene know.

As always, your help and support is greatly appreciated!

Arap time change: Calling chaperones, pit crew volunteers

Folks;

Just found out we'll be performing at 11:30 a.m. instead of 11:15 a.m. at the Arapahoe Invitational on Oct. 10.

And please remember, parents, that we need bus chaperones and pit crew volunteers for not only the Arapahoe Invitational but the Oct. 9 homecoming football game as well. We had a great turn-out for the Jeffco Marching Festival, but we can always use additional help. Remember, even if you can only help out during one or two events, it all counts.

So....... If you can ride a bus/chaperone and help get the students ready for their performances, please contact Arlene Bloom at arlene.bloom@comcast.net. We also need a parent to help the color guard get ready. If you can lend a hand, please contact Beth Chandler at bthchandler@comcast.net. And if you can help out for pit crew, please contact DeWayne Oliver at dewkar@comcast.net.

Again, thanks for your support.
