On to Quarter, Semi-Finals

First off, thank you to everyone who was there to help out during last night's Metro Regionals. For those of you who couldn't be there, we know you were there in spirit!

Second, and importantly, the band is off to quarterfinal competition, which will take place Friday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas County High School.

Because this competition is during the workweek, we realize it will be challenging for parents to help us out. That said, it's critically important we have enough adults to ride the buses, help get the students ready for competition, and, thirdly, help out with the Pit Crew. This season's performance requires us to move a lot of equipment, and we need all the help we can get. So, parents, if it's at all possible for you take some time off, or, if you are self-employed and can re-arrange your schedule, please consider giving up a morning and lend a hand. Your students, and the entire band, will appreciate it.

Please refer to the itinerary you received via e-mail for more information about the quarterfinals competition/Night Before State.

A few other notes: Because the band will be performing at quarterfinals, we will not be performing at the football game as originally scheduled Oct. 22. Instead, we will have a rehearsal Thursday after school to prepare for Friday's performance.

You'll also notice in the itinerary has a preliminary schedule for the semi-final competition that will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Legacy Stadium in Aurora. The band's performance on Friday will determine when it will perform on Saturday; the tentative schedule attached will give you an idea of what to expect if the band winds up performing in the earliest time slots.

You can see that both Friday and, potentially, Saturday, will be two days of very early mornings, so please keep that in mind.

Finally, we'll be sending more information later in the week about Night Before State and other activities.

This is crunch week. No doubt about it. But the band is working hard, playing well and with your help and support, will finish the 2009 band competition season strong.

Again, thanks for your help. If you have any questions, let us know.

If you can volunteer for bus chaperone/helping get the students ready on Friday, please remember to contact Arlene Bloom at arlene.bloom@comcast.net or bthchandler@comcast.net if you're a Guard parent. For Pit Crew, contact DeWayne Oliver at dewkar@comcast.net.

Big week for band: Upcoming events

The week of Oct. 12 is a big week for the band, with two competitions, including the all-important Metro Regionals, which will help determine if the band moves to quarter-final competition on Friday, Oct. 23. (And of course, they will.)

In addition, the band boosters is sponsoring a parent get-together on the night of Tuesday, Oct. 13, where we will make sack lunches for Metro Regionals and also discuss plans for one of the band's biggest traditions, Night Before State.

First, the parent get-together. On Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. in the band room, we will be making sack lunches for Metro Regionals and talking about Night Before State. It is important that we get as many parents as possible to attend. And we hope to see new faces! Please notify Arlene (arlene.bloom@comcast.net)if you can attend.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Night Before State, it's a time for the band members to get together on the evening of Oct. 23 at the school and prepare for the semi-final competition that will take place the following day. There are always some special activities that make the evening an extraordinary event. Again, the more parents who can help out, the more enjoyable Night Before State will be for our students.

Next, Metro Regionals, which will take place on Thursday, Oct. 15, at Littleton Public School Stadium at 199 East Littleton Blvd. (South Broadway and Littleton Boulevard on the campus of Littleton High School. It's the same location where the Arapahoe Invitational took place.

Again, parking will be at a premium. We haven't heard if the vacant lot that was available to parents during the Arapahoe competition will be available for Metro Regionals. We'll send more information as it becomes available.

Finally, the Friendship Cup, which will take place Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Everly-Montgomery Stadium at Longmont High School. The school is located at 1040 Sunset Street in Longmont.

For these events, as always, we need your help.

Specifically, we are need of bus chaperones, Pit Crew help and Color Guard help for both Metro Regionals and Friendship Cup. If you can help, e-mail or call the following people:

Arlene Bloom at arlene.bloom@comcast.net or call (303) 946- 4425, if interested in helping with students and chaperoning.

Beth Chandler at bthchandler@comcast.net or call (303) 949- 0477, if interested in helping out with Color Guard.

DeWayne Oliver at dewkar@comcast.net, if interested in being part of the Pit Crew.

Please let us know as soon as possible so we are sure that we have enough help for these events!

For those of you who might not be able to help out at events but would like to help out in a way that is more flexible with your time, we really need help with washing uniforms and gauntlets. After the Friendship Cup on Saturday, Oct. 17, and before the following Friday, Oct. 23, we will need to wash all the uniform jackets. They are simple to wash in the machine on delicate, cold water, with use of a non- chlorine stain remover. The more help we have, the easier it will be to do this. Please email or call Arlene Bloom if you are able to help out with this. We want the students to look their best at the Finals Competitions! If you can donate some washing time, please let Arlene know.

As always, your help and support is greatly appreciated!

Arap time change: Calling chaperones, pit crew volunteers

Folks;

Just found out we'll be performing at 11:30 a.m. instead of 11:15 a.m. at the Arapahoe Invitational on Oct. 10.

And please remember, parents, that we need bus chaperones and pit crew volunteers for not only the Arapahoe Invitational but the Oct. 9 homecoming football game as well. We had a great turn-out for the Jeffco Marching Festival, but we can always use additional help. Remember, even if you can only help out during one or two events, it all counts.

So....... If you can ride a bus/chaperone and help get the students ready for their performances, please contact Arlene Bloom at arlene.bloom@comcast.net. We also need a parent to help the color guard get ready. If you can lend a hand, please contact Beth Chandler at bthchandler@comcast.net. And if you can help out for pit crew, please contact DeWayne Oliver at dewkar@comcast.net.

Again, thanks for your support.

Congrats, thanks, Hawaii and upcoming events

First, congratulations to the marching band for their spectacular 4th place finish at the Jeffco Marching Invitational last night. The band looked and sounded great on their first trip out, and we are excited to see what the rest of the season holds. Our next big event is Homecoming and the Arapahoe Marching Invitational, itineraries for which are attached in e-mails sent on Sept. 30. Please read them carefully.

Second, thank you to all of the parents who helped out last night at the competition. We saw several new faces and we hope to see several more!

Third, the next Hawaii payment is due tomorrow, Oct. 1, in the amount of $350. Chaperone forms are also due tomorrow. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Muncey.

Finally, an important note about the Arapahoe invitational. The event is held at Littleton Public Schools Stadium, which is located on the campus of Littleton High School at 199 E. Littleton Boulevard (South Broadway and Littleton Boulevard).

Those of us who have attended competitions at LPS know that spectator parking is extremely limited. For this year, however, the good folks coordinating the event have received permission from the owners of Burt GMC to allow spectators to park their vehicles on a large, vacant lot just south of Littleton Boulevard.

The lot is on the east side of Broadway, just south of Littleton Boulevard. Spectators can park there, and walk one block up to Littleton Boulevard, then go east one long block to the stadium. Signage will be strategically placed on Broadway directing people to the lot, and the lot will be staffed by volunteers.

Disabled persons will still be able to park in the lot closest to LPS Stadium.

Questions? Contact Mrs. Muncey, or respond to this e-mail.

And as always, Go Wheaties!!!!!

Upcoming Band Schedule

Fellow boosters:

The Marching Band has a busy schedule in the next few weeks. It begins on Tuesday, Sept. 22, with our benefit concert at the D-Note. The concert begins at 7, and we ask that you attend as well as bring lots of friends! The D-Note is located at 7519 Grandview Ave. in Olde Town Arvada.

Next, we have our first football game, on Thursday, Sept. 24, against Dakota Ridge. The football team is fun to watch, but the Marching Band is even better! Please come out to support both our great football team and our Marching Band. The game begins at 7 and will take place at the North Area Athletic Complex, 19400 West 64th Avenue Parkway in Arvada. It's basically on the corner of Colorado Highway 93 and 64th Avenue.

Next weekend — Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26 — is also the 17th Annual Retreat Weekend for the Marching Band. This is our final big push before our first competition the following Tuesday. It is important for the students to be at all rehearsals Friday and Saturday. Part of this weekend is the sleepover at the school and the parent performance at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Please make sure that when your student comes to school or rehearsal on Friday that you send them with a sleeping bag, pillow, and any other items necessary for a sleepover. High school students will be allowed to store their belongings during the school day. These rooms will be locked during the school day, but as with any activity, please do not send anything of great value with your student.

The parent performance is a fun opportunity to watch your students up close as well as get a small taste of how hard they work. Following the performance, we will have an ice cream social provided by the boosters that we hope you will all attend before taking your students home.

Last, but not least, the Jeffco Marching Festival will take place Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Jeffco Stadium on Kipling, just south of Sixth Avenue. This is our first major competition, and we hope you will attend. The atmosphere at a band competition is very different from a football game, and it is always fun to see other bands

Check your e-mail for information about all the upcoming events. As always, there are plenty of opportunities for parents to help out, whether it's serving as a chaperone, riding the bus or helping out on the Pit Crew. Just respond to this e-mail.....

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you at all the upcoming events!

Agenda for mandatory parents meeting May 30

Calling ALL band parents. Please mark your calendars for Saturday, May 30 at 11 a.m. There is a mandatory meeting for all band parents at Wheat Ridge High School. This meeting is where you will get the most information about band and the upcoming season. We will follow this meeting with a pot luck picnic beginning at noon. Please save the day.

We all need to meet each other for a couple of reasons.

1. So we know who to look for in the stands during competitions!! and

2. Our kids will flourish with our BONDED support!!

Itinerary for the day is as follows:

If you need band shoes -- freshmen and incoming 8th grade marchers -- please show up at 10:30 to be fitted for shoes. Shoe price is still being determined. Last year it was in the range of $35 and gloves are $2 per pair.

11:00 am. - MANDATORY meeting for all.

12:00 pm. - POTLUCK PICNIC

To make the planning of this easier for all, we will divide everyone up in food groups as follows:

Eighth grade and Rookie Families - Any kind of hot dish -- to feed 12

Freshmen Families - You get appetizers, anything and everything works!! -- to feed 12 or more

Sophomore Families - any kind of cold salad -- with lettuce (include dressing), potatoes, pasta -- to feed 12 or more

Junior Families - Any kind of hot dish -- to feed 12

Senior Families - You get dessert!!

WRHS Band Boosters will provide all drinks and provisions -- plates, napkins, forks, etc etc.

We look forward to seeing all of you there!!

If anyone has any problems with this, or a question of any kind, please feel free to call Jebbi at 303-462-0084.

Please leave a message. She is easiest to contact after 5 p.m.

Important: Marching Band info; schedule

Hello Everyone!

First of all, thank you to everyone who came to the concert this week. You should be very proud of your student's accomplishments for this year, and for the seniors, the past four years. It has been a pleasure to work with your students this year, and I am very excited about the 2009-2010 school year!

I have some marching band information for everyone, as I have been getting a lot of questions. Our calendar is online this year. Instructions for accessing the calendar are below. If you are having difficulties accessing it, please email me, and I will help you.

A few upcoming dates everyone needs to know about - and yes, this year all events are at WRHS!!!!!

•Saturday May 16 - Rookie Day 9AM - 12 Noon
This is for all new Rookies to the band and section leaders. If you or your student do not fit into either of these categories, you do not need to attend.

•Tuesday May 26 - Friday May 29 Mini Camp 4PM to 8PM
All Rookies (and all guard) need to be at Mini Camp the entire time. Returning Vets only need to be at Mini Camp from 6PM to 8PM. Rookies should be prepared to march from 4 PM to 6 PM, and everyone should be prepared to play from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Saturday May 30 Mandatory Student/Parent Meeting 11 AM
This is a meeting for all parents and students, regardless if you are a Rookie or a Vet. Important information about the season will be presented as well as this will be your only chance to order shoes and gloves for the marching season. Following the meeting we will have a potluck picnic. Items to bring will be assigned by class and flyers will be handed out during Mini Camp.

Thanks, and we'll see you on the 30th!

Help needed: Need truck to pull trailer to band banquet

Hi, all;

We have decorated the band trailer with a surprise that will be revealed at the band banquet on May 6.

But to do that, we have to get the trailer pulled up to the Mount Vernon Country Club.

What we need is someone with a truck or SUV who would be willing to take the trailer from WRHS to the banquet and then back to WRHS.

If you can help out, please contact DeWayne Oliver at dewkar@comcast.net.

Still looking for senior pictures for band banquet

As a part of our banquet festivities, we are planning a moment to honor our seniors. We were wondering if anyone has pictures of the senior class through the years they have been in band. Also, we have asked for a senior picture to include, but most of the seniors have not gotten us one. If we could get that by Thursday, it would be most appreciated.
Thanks, and see you at the Banquet!

Booster members will be there and ALL SENIOR PARENTS are encouraged to attend if you can. KS gift cards March 7

This Saturday, March 7, Susan Dunn will be at the Starbucks at 38th and Kipling between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. to sell King Soopers gift cards. Remember: For every dollar you spend on groceries, you can allocate 5 percent to your student's account. Doesn't seem like much, but that 5 percent can add up very quickly, especially when it comes time to pay for trips, equipment and other band-related activities.

So don't be shy. Come by this Saturday and buy those gift cards.

Thanks.

And don't forget the musical this week. "Once Upon a Mattress" will be presented Wednesday, March 4 through Saturday March 7, each evening at 7 p.m. Tix are $12.

Thanks for your support

King Soopers gift cards for sale this Saturday

Time for the weekly reminder.

You can buy King Soopers gift cards every week and keep 5 percent of what you purchase for your student's benefit.

Each Saturday morning, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Susan Dunn sells King Soopers gift cards at the Starbucks at 38th and Kipling. It's a great way for you to put some money into your student's account. With the 2010 band trip not that far off, every dollar that you can put away now is a dollar less you have to come up with later.

It's simple. Just give Susan a check in the amount of the gift cards you want to buy, then put your student's name on the memo line of the check. The boosters will keep track of the money, and you're ready for grocery shopping. If you prefer to do your shopping at Safeway or another store, then purchase a Visa gift card at King Soopers, pay for it with your King Soopers gift card, and then take your Visa gift card to your favorite store. Your student still gets the 5 percent, and you still get to shop where you want to.

Thank again for your support, and be sure to get your gift cards from Susan this Saturday.

Parent/Teacher conferences and Ms. Muncey

Hello Parents and Students!

As you may know, this Thursday is Parent/Teacher conferences. Due to my obligations with the musical, I will not be able to attend conferences. If you need to meet with me to discuss your student, please contact me via email to arrange another time to meet. I thank you for your understanding.

Finally, a huge congratulations to the Winter Guard for their 5th place finish at the Sand Creek High School Competition on Saturday. If you haven't had a chance to see the girls yet, you're in for a treat. Their next show will be at Legacy High School on March 7. More details to come.

Thanks so much for your continued support of your students and the instrumental music program!
